Which boring business fits you? Eight questions, no wrong answers.
You do not need a startup idea. Every year, thousands of ordinary, profitable businesses change hands: routes, shops, crews, kitchens, classrooms. The question is not whether one fits you. It is which one. Answer eight plain questions about how you actually like to work and get a starting picture, with honest ranges and your first three moves.
Answer like nobody is grading you. Nobody is.
Price ranges on results are illustrative of where listings in each family often sit. They are not listings for sale today, and real ones run below and above them. Eight questions cannot know you; treat the match as a starting lens, not a verdict.
Every match, spelled out
Boring is a compliment here. These are the six families of everyday businesses that quietly change hands all the time, each with a different rhythm of work. The quiz just weighs your answers against them. If one below makes you sit up, that reaction outranks any quiz result.
The Route Runner
Lawn routes, pool routes, cleaning routes. You, a vehicle, a schedule, and customers who pay monthly. Independence in its purest form: often listed around $150,000 to $450,000.
The Crew Chief
Heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical. A team in the field, a phone that rings, and fewer, bigger jobs. Leadership pays here: often listed around $400,000 to $1,500,000.
The Place Keeper
Laundromats, salons, dry cleaners. One address that becomes yours, steady walk-in demand, and equipment doing much of the earning. Often listed around $200,000 to $700,000.
The Host
Delis, cafes, catering. A packed counter, regulars who order the usual, and energy as the main ingredient. Weekends are part of the deal: often listed around $150,000 to $600,000.
The Quiet Operator
Commercial cleaning, bookkeeping practices, small delivery services. Contracts that renew, work behind the scenes, evenings that stay yours. Often listed around $300,000 to $1,000,000.
The Caretaker
Childcare centers, tutoring, senior services. Licensed, regulated, and deeply needed. The staff and the waiting list are the real assets. Often listed around $400,000 to $1,200,000.
